This blog was instituted for all the freelance writers who are upset with Irvin Muchnick's destruction of the settlement which would have paid millions of dollars to thousands of hard-working writers. Irvin Muchnick is an evil person whose mission in life is to cause harm to others.

Irvin Muchnick has now blocked writers from receiving money from the settlement for roughly seven and a half years.
ReplyDeleteI see no evidence that he gives a damn about any of us. If he did, he would have contacted as many writers as he could to solicit their input on what would constitute a better settlement. Instead, he found a few other plaintiffs and ignored the needs and wants of thousands of hard-working writers.
I contacted him myself back in 2005 to inquire about his goals. I told him that I was owed more than $100K, but would be willing to have a conversation about how writers could work together to improve the settlement.
I was extremely polite in my outreach to him -- as well as several follow-up outreaches.
He has NEVER responded to my inquiry. Yet, he had the gall to mention my case in interviews with print publications, indicating he received my inquiries but just doesn't give a damn.
He is a selfish egomaniac who has ruined lives. As far as I know, he has contacted ZERO writers. Some of these writers were financially wrecked because of what has happened to the journalism business. Many of these writers could have recovered with paychecks they deserve because their articles were essentially stolen from them by megacompanies who made money off of us.
But Muchnick has destroyed their lives. One woman pleaded with the court to have the settlement approved, detailing how long she worked to register her articles and how she needed the money to take care of her sick mother and sick child.
Muchnick responded that this woman's case was "trivial." On that basis alone, he is EVIL.
Muchnick is involved in a 20-year war with his ex-boss -- Jonathan Tasini. The two of them have been fighting for egomaniacal reasons and don't have the brains or heart to do anything to help even one writer other than themselves.
By the way, the woman who spent months filing her claim worked for The Chicago Tribune.

Thank you for posting the first of what I hope will be many responses. I'm sure there are thousands who feel the way we do. Please spread the word about this blog. Since the writers have no way to contact each other, this blog offers a way to share feelings on the subject. After destroying the settlement, Irvin Muchnick should not be allowed to just tiptoe on to another subject without protest.
